Missouri Ozarks Division - Stockton Lake Details – May 15th. 2010
The Friday night meeting was held at the Mt. Carmel Inn. The weather cleared up long enough for the 18 participants to enjoy an evening of fellowship, a meal, and a thought provoking message delivered by Bro. Marty Thompson, of Thompsons Guide Service. Be sure and look him up if you want to try for some Stockton Lake Walleye. We had one rededication at the meeting.
After a stormy night, the weather once again cleared up for the 8 teams taking off, on a chilly Saturday morning, at the Old State Park Ramp. The participants made it through the event without getting wet, with rain coming as the weigh in started.
The team of Chuck Gardner and Brad Heins captured first place with a limit weighing 14.34 pounds, and finished first in the Bonus Bucks pot, winning $770.00 total. . Three things worth noting: 1.) This was Brad’s first event with us, 2.) They drove through the night from Emporia, Kansas to fish, and 3.) They won by .18 Pounds! The team fished the main lake, catching their fish on smaller jigs tied to 20 pound fluorocarbon line, in 68 degree stained water, about 8’ down.
Last years winners, Kevin and Bryan Jackson, from Monett, Missouri, came in second, losing by a “tail flip”, with a limit weighing 14.16 pounds. They caught their fish in the Little Sac area, using Spinner Baits, plastic worms, and crank baits. A second place finish in the Bonus Bucks and the second Big Bass of the day at 3.94 pounds, let them take $62.00 back to Monett.
Big Bass honors, and $48.00, went to the team of Scotty Doolin and Kim Stevenson, from Milo and Brighton, Mo. Scotty caught a 4.46 pounder on a Lizard, anchoring their third place finish with a limit weighing 12.33 pounds.
Finishing third in the Bonus Bucks, taking home $20.00, was the team of Garon Smith and Greg Johnson, from Olathe, Ks. They had a limit registering on the scales at 8.84 pounds. They were fishing in clear water, deeper than the others at about 12 feet, in water that was only 60 degrees at the surface. They were using June Bug colored worms on Spot Remover stand up jig heads, tied to 10 pound test line.
Not to be forgotten, our Division Chaplain, John Gamblin, fishing with his partner, Randy Roustio, drug in a .76 pound White Bass.
Our next event is June 12th. at Table Rock, at the Cape Fair Marina Ramp. Official lodging is the Bridgeport resort, which is just a short boat ride to the ramp. Call for reservations: 866-462-6286. Check them out at www.bridgeportresort.com . They allow one night stays. Ask for Shelly or Don and mention you are from Fishers of Men to get the off season rate. There are 3 events left this season. You can still qualify for the Regional Championship (where the winners receive a new Triton), by fishing the remaining three. We will send at least two teams to the National Championship, where another Triton will be won.
