Lake of the Ozarks - March 1, 2008

 

This event should have been named "Ice Bowl 08" due to the conditions tournament day. 

 The Friday night meeting, graciously hosted by Sunrise Bible Church in Laurie, Missouri, went well.  20 participants at the meeting were blessed with an inspirational message by the Church's Pastor, Nick Stutesman.  Pastor Nick shared information on what can only be called a miraculous healing of his wife Kim.  I encourage anyone wanting an example of how "Gods word brings life and healing as we believe and speak his word through faith in Jesus Christ", quoting Pastor Nick, to go online and view an article written by Pastor Nick regarding this event.  It can be found at www.sou-magazine.com.  Go to past issues, and then Winter 2007, pages 12-15. 

 Tournament day found temperatures in the 20's with a thin layer of ice on the lake at Shawnee Bend.  The 5 teams brave enough to challenge the elements literally broke through the ice on the way to their favorite spots.  Typical of Missouri weather, it was above 60 at weigh in, but the fishing was not good.  Thankfully fish were caught!  The first place team of Kevin and Bryan Jackson managed two fish weighing 4.49 pounds, anchored by second big bass at 2.44 pounds.  They caught both fish up the Gravois using a Tennessee Shad colored Smithwick Rogue.  They also managed to catch the largest junk fish, a nice 1.21 pound Crappie.  Their domination continued with a first place finish  in the Bonus Bucks pot.  The team took home the guaranteed purse of $1000.00.  The only other fish caught gave the Team of Randall Roustyone and John Gamblin second place in the Bonus bucks pot and big Bass Honors.  For their efforts they took home $60.00.

 Heartfelt thanks to The Sunrise Bible Church for providing the meeting location, meal, and speaker, The Lake House Inn in Laurie for accommodations, and Osage Bait and Tackle in Laurie for help with draw prizes.  A special thanks to Bass Pro Shop, in Columbia, for the raffle prize, a rod and reel combo, won by Dwayne Blanton, of Caseyville, Illinois.
